Solitude

Combine and integrate the two versions, so it reads like the story of the photo being taken.

The blue of the sea and the sound of the waves crashing calmed his tortured soul. The sunset cast a warm glow all around and the air was still. There was no one around, only us and silence fills the air.Sometimes you just need to get away from it all and rather than do something stupid,he went to the beach.Because he know that when all fails, the sand and the sea never fails to soothe his soul.

I went there with him.Fearing that he will drown his sorrow and let himself get swept away by the current. We just sat there and listen to sound of the waves and the seagulls flocking by, and after awhile,I let him sit and just bask in the warmth and calmness and slowly,I went to the back and took a picture of him from faraway. As I was about to capture the beautiful picture,I thought to myself..he looked really relax and mellow.Something inside of me just calls out to him..It reminded me that as long as I'm here for him and as long as the beach is always there,he will be just fine.

When things get too hard, know that you can rely on me and the sea.I shouted this to him after I took his picture.

1)Wish you were here

I breathe in the air
That's fresh and cool
The smell of the ocean
The sway of the palm trees
Calms my mind.

Here,
There's no traffic jams,
No pollution,
Just the sound of the waves,
Rolling and crashing to the shore.

I saw a seashell,
An iridescent blue.
And it reminded me
So much of you.

Hard on the outside,
But soft on the inside.

I came here to find myself,
To find my peace of mind,
But I know now that,
Part of me,
Lies with you.

2)Island Getaway

There's nothing better,
Than the sound of the ocean,
The smell of suntan lotion,
The taste of coconut juice,
The warm of the shiny sun,
While I'm lying here,
And watching the people go by.

They look relax and calm,
While the kids,
Built sandcastles,
And the crabs are digging their hole.

There's nothing better
Than being on an island
Away from the hustle and bustle
Of the hectic city life.

On my own

I don't get it
Why must someone who's
Different than the others
Be ostracize.

Does everyone has too look the same?
Talk the same and act the same?
Do we have to conform to others?
Why must you pretend to be somebody else?
Just so that people will like you better?

I might not be like you and you,
But I know who I am.
I have my own stance,
I have my own opinions,
And I will not be denied.

My words are my own,
They are not yours or yours,
They are mine.

1.Let's warm up

A place where magic happens

A dash of this
A dash of that
And tadaah,a delightful dish.

It awakens the creativity,
Ingredients mix together
To create magic
An entice people with
It's bountiful offerings.

The smell of cookies
Freshly baked bread
Cream puffs galore
Wafts through the air.

A cabinet filled with goodies
An icebox with treats
Baskets of fruits
On the gleaming countertop.

Beneath the tiles,
The silence of the oven,
Lies fond memories,
Of birthdays,gatherings,
Of times that were spent
Together,creating magical dishes
That awakens the tastebuds.

2.ACTIVITY 1
Postcard 1

a)Dance

Andy,
Don't you just love to dance?
I thought I never will,
But now it gives me chill.

Met Pat,Cathy and Peter,
They taught me how to be better,
At twisting and shaking
To the beat of sounds.

From foxtrot to salsa and macarena,
We move and move to the groove.

Oh how I wish you could join us,
And dance and dance,
Leaving everyone on the dance floor,
In a trance.

b)Pulling out my hair

Liyana,
Seeing these people having fun,
Made me really want to run.

There's no piece and quiet
And I'm getting tired.

They never stop dancing,
Or never stop asking
For me to come and join them.

They're making a lot of noise
And my vacation has turned
Into one big ruckus!

The Fasting Month

The fasting month is a month that I actually look forward for.And for so many reasons.I love having sahur and buka puasa with my family.I love going to the Ramadhan Bazaar with my family during the weekends and with my friends during the weekdays.I love the fact that it's a very holy month for the muslims all over the world. This year,I manage to start the fasting month by having my 1st and 2nd day if sahur with my family anf even breaking the fast with them.During this fasting month,a fellow muslim not only has to abstain from eating and drinking but they should also refrain from saying bad things about others, hearing bad things(gossip and such) or looking at bad things. And I have to say during this fasting month,I am definitely more diligent in doing my ibadah.

Also, people tend to say that people tend to lose weight during the fasting month but I think people actually tend to gain weight during the fasting month!Read it HERE and you have to admit that eating at night(after berbuka) does make you gain weight! You defintely can lose weight during the fasting month if you are careful over what you buy for breaking your fast but because we have refrain from eating for a whole day,we tend to buy food with our eyes when we go to the Ramadhan Bazaar. And then we eat and eat after we break our fast.My parents taught me to just have something to drink or a few dates when I break my fast,go straight to maghrib prayers and only after that I should eat something heavy and this is practice by my parents everynight during the month of Ramadhan.

And don't sleep after you have taken your sahur as it helps your body to digest the food better.During this Ramadhan month,I have break my fast with the following foods:

a) Nasi Kerabu-I had this 2 days in a row.
b)Murtabak-the ones in Puncak Alam is the best so far,not like the tasteless ones that is available in Shah Alam.
c)Dadih-I have tried almost all of the flavors from honeydew,strawberry,blueberry...
d)Ayam golek-to me the best ayam golek has to have a good marinade & a great dipping sauce and this has to be the one at the Stadium bazaar & the one in sect.17.
e)Nasi ayam-last year,I had this dish almost everyday! But not this year. This year my choices varies.
f)Kebab Melawati-to my brothers and me,they make the best kebab.I like their beef kebab.
g)Chakoi-the deep fried curlers.I hate the fact that they serve kaya as the dipping sauce because I like the spicy chillie sauce better. This one stall in sect.17 gave great chillie sauce with their chakoi but then a few days after, they changed it to kaya!

So far, this Ramadhan,I have been to 3 different bazaars. The one in sect.17,the one at the Stadium shah alam & the one in Puncak Alam. But I have yet to find the kuih that my dad & I like which is the tepung gomak.Last year they were everywhere in Sect.17 but now, they're nowhere to be found!I am not going to give up as there's still 2 more weeks to go!

My favorite fictional character

I want to sound less superficial with my choice of fictional character but I just really love this character and although I could probably write about a serious character that I love..I prefer to write about my less serious and quite frivolous character here ..My favorite fictional character has to be Rebecca Bloomwood from the Shopaholic book series by Sophie Kinsella.I have all of the books under the Shopaholic series. The first one was Confessions of a Shopaholic, and then it was Shopaholic takes Manhattan,Shopaholic ties the knot,Shopaholic and Sister and the latest one was Shopaholic and Baby.

Because of the fact that she has an incredible taste in fashion and she has an almost perfect life.Sure, she does get into trouble once in awhile because of her spending habit but she's only human. And it's so funny the way she gets into trouble and reading the stories that Sophie Kinsella wrote about her never fails to make me laugh. Some of Becky moments that I love is when she hides her credit card statement from her husband(almost all the time) or when she concocted this huge lie so that she can borrow 20 pounds to add to the only 100 pounds that she had during a seminar,in order to buy a scarf that was on sale...And when she found out that she has a half-sister and she tries to make her feel welcome only to find out that she's totally different from her.Or her dilemma over her wedding and her first time discovering New York.

I guess the reason why I like Rebecca so much or Becky, as she is called in the books, is because she's someone that girls can relate too.Girls who loves fashion and who loves to shop. And she's just so funny and the fact that she has a great husband, bestfriend and parents, made her character looks almost perfect.Reading stories about Becky is a form of escapism for me because I'm always exposed to serious materials and books that require you to fully concentrate and all, especially for my study. So reading about Becky and her life is fun and entertaining and I hope that Sophie Kinsella will continue to write more books about Becky and her life.

A rich childhood

This week topic for my journal entry has to be something that finally,I can write and write about.
As the eldest in the family,my parents exposed me to many reading materials at a young age.I had a rich childhood that involve a lot of great and imaginative reading materials. My early reading memory was when my late grandfather on my mom's side, gave me a newspaper to read to his friends who came for tea and I being the creative kid that I was, made up a totally new story altogether while pretending that I really was reading the news.My grandpa & his friends of course, laughed their ass off.

My early reading history however, started when I was in kindergarten and involved many Peter and Jane books,to which even until today,is still in the toybox that my brothers have.I love reading Jane & Peter's adventure and my mum will go over the book with me when she finish from work.I was able to read English books at a very early age. After Peter and Jane,I read a lot of Archie comics, which my mom collects from highschool until today.Everybody in our family read Archie comics & it's suffice to say that my mom has more than 1000 comics in our collection. My mum also bought me Barbie's comic books when I was a kid.I love reading them and the pretty illustrations definitely help and at that time,I was into Barbies so that helped fuel my reading habit too.And then I read Enid Bylton's books and I bought one every week.I loved the stories because the characters were very colourful and each story teach us a moral lesson. And I also read Nancy Drew books.I have to thank my mum who was the one responsible to fuel this reading passion inside of me even until today.

There are many books that were and are still important to me, but since that would be a very long list,I'll only blog about 4 books:

a)Marina Mahathir's in Liberal Doses-Marina Mahathir's is someone whom I have tremendous respect for ever since I was a teenager because she was fighting for a cause(HIV/AIDS) that a lot of people was skeptical about and although she was the daughter of a PM at that time, she wasn't afraid of being outspoken. Her book, which was bought by my mum,who coincidentally had the same name as her, inspired me a lot in my teenage angst days.I even quoted her articles during my public speaking competition in high school.

b)Words that shook the world:100 years of unforgettable speeches and events by Richard Greene and Florie Brizel
-this book was originally priced at rm210 but I manage to buy it for a mere rm20 at MPH warehouse sale a few years ago and it's a gem.It contain speeches but some of the most remarkable historical figure in the world like Theodore Roosevelt,Winston Churchill,Martin Luther King and John F.Kennedy.I was inspired when I read about Theodore Roosevelt and choose to speak about him for my informative speech last semester.

c)The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Reading both of these books made me more aware of the situation in Afghanistan. Both books taught me that friendship and love is a very powerful thing. The books move me in a way that I even think about joining Relief or Amnesty International when I have graduate.

If I were deprived of books,I'll probably be really bored with my life. And I would definitely not be as knowledgeable as I am today. All the books that I have read have taught me about so many things from travelling to life lessons to fashion to religion and many more.Books not only gives us knowledge but it also reaches out to others and connects people from different race or religion.I could not imagine what my life will be without books. It will definitely be a boring life for someone who loves to read like I do!
